THE FILES
What goes in. What comes out.
Choose an MP3, PCM WAV, AAC-encoded M4A, FLAC, OGG Vorbis, or AAC audio file. Decoding depends on your browser and the codec inside the file; an extension alone does not guarantee support. If decoding fails, export a PCM WAV and try again.
The output is a Standard MIDI File (Type 1): a timing track plus the nonempty note tracks shown above. It contains note pitches, start times, durations, and estimated velocities. MIDI contains performance instructions, not the sound of your recording.
This page sets a 50 MB file limit and a 5-minute duration limit to bound local processing. These are application settings, not measured device capacity. Longer clips take more work; phones may run out of memory before these limits.
THE METHOD
From sound to editable notes.
Your browser decodes the file, mixes its audio channels to mono, and resamples to 22,050 Hz for the local transcription model. The model estimates note onsets, pitches, durations, and amplitudes. Processing runs in a background worker on your device.
For the default track layout, notes below the midpoint of the detected lowest and highest pitches go to the lower track; the rest go to the upper track. Empty tracks are omitted. This is an editable pitch-range split, not left/right-hand recognition or instrument separation.
The MIDI tempo starts at 120 BPM as an export setting, not a detected tempo. Changing it adjusts the tick mapping while preserving note times in seconds. No quantization is applied. Velocity is the model amplitude multiplied by 127, rounded and limited to 1–127; it is an estimate, not an original MIDI velocity recovered from audio.
THE LIMITS
A transcription to work with.
The transcription model is designed for pitched audio and works best with one instrument at a time. Chords can produce overlapping notes, but dense mixes, reverb, quiet notes, and overlapping instruments can cause missed or extra notes. Check the MIDI against the recording in your music editor.
This page does not separate instruments, transcribe drums, recover sustain-pedal events, or export pitch bends. The original sound and effects are not preserved. Very short notes may be omitted: the local note decoder uses a minimum of 11 model frames (about 0.13 seconds), with onset and frame thresholds of 0.5 and 0.3. These are algorithm settings, not accuracy scores.
Video, online audio links, recording, batch conversion, and reverse conversion are not supported. Files and results are not saved as history. Selecting a new file or refreshing clears the current result.
QUICK ANSWERS
Before you export.
How do I change MP3 to MIDI?
Choose or drop an MP3 file above. Conversion starts automatically. Review the detected notes, then download the MIDI file. The model and code are included with this page, so your audio stays in your browser without an account or conversion API.
Can I convert a song to MIDI?
You can select a song within this page’s file and duration limits, but dense mixes can produce missed or extra notes. The default export groups detected notes into lower and upper pitch ranges; it does not separate instruments. Both tracks use a piano playback program, which you can change in your music editor. A file with only one detected pitch produces one note track.
What does “convert MP3 file to MIDI” produce?
It produces an editable note transcription, not a copy of the recorded sound. MIDI stores detected pitches, timing, and estimated velocity. Playback uses your music software’s instruments, so it will sound different from the MP3. Transcription can miss or add notes.
How does AI MP3 to MIDI conversion work?
A local model analyzes the decoded audio to estimate note onsets, pitches, durations, and amplitudes. Silence, percussion, or unclear pitched sound may not produce usable notes. Try a cleaner isolated instrument recording; no download is created when no notes are detected.
What is the best MP3 to MIDI converter for my recording?
That depends on the recording and the edits you need. Check the detected pitches, timing, and missing or extra notes against your source audio. This page offers local processing and pitch-range tracks, but does not claim to outperform other tools or separate instruments.
